| Frederick Bligh Bond When the Church of England bought the Abbey ruins and its surrounding land at a ceremonial auction attended by the King and Queen in 1907, the Church appointed the mediaeval archaeologist Frederick Bligh Bond to lead the excavations. For fourteen years he lived at Number Three, then known as Abbotsleigh, and it was here that he received the automatic writing that led to his extraordinary discoveries. For further information see The Avalonians by Patrick Benham, published by Gothic Image. Winston Churchill lived in this house. In fact a recent guest had been brought here by his parents to have lunch with Churchill and his mother. |
